June is Men’s Health Month!

Celebrated since 1994 (by a resolution put forth by Senator Bob Dole), National Men’s Health Month has a fascinating history.

For you and all the men in your life, spend this month working on

  • healthy habits

  • learning your own risk factors

  • learn about your family risk factors

  • learning the health risk factors you can do something about, and

  • schedule those tests you’ve been putting off!

According to the CDC, the top causes of death in men in the United States are, in order:

  1. heart disease

  2. cancer

  3. accidents

Answer these questions:

  • When was my last regular full check-up?

  • Do I have risk factors for the top 3 causes of death in men?

  • What can I do to reduce my risk?

In my practice, most of the men I take care of were originally sent in by the women in their lives. (Not all! Some men are really proactive with their health and want to optimize their health in every way possible.)

It is up for debate as to whether women or men are better about putting their health as a high life priority.

You probably take your car in for regular tune-ups because you understand the importance of preventive maintenance.

You also take your car into the shop the minute it makes a funny noise. If you are not feeling your best, why put off a health check-up until things really go wrong?

Move yourself up on your to-do list.
